G.J. Nikolas & Co., Inc.
The founder George J. Nikolas was frustrated with the inconsistent performance of brass lacquers available in the late 1800s. One batch would be as thin as water, the next as thick as glue.
He used his spare time at a Chicago brass plating company to develop the "falling ball" method of measuring lacquer viscosity. In 1890 he started his own company to manufacture high quality, consistent brass lacquers and supported his products with a $1000 satisfaction guarantee. Today G.J. Nikolas & Co., Inc. is the oldest family-owned lacquer manufacturer in the industry. The inventive spirit that gave birth to the company has kept it in the forefront of innovation for 100+ years.
From high-tech compliant coatings to customized lacquers for French horns and brass beds, Nikolas has formulated more than 10,000 different coatings for brass and other non-ferrous metals.
The company uses the highest-grade raw materials, tests them in its own laboratories and performs no fewer than three quality assurance checks before releasing a product under the Nikolas label.
The company's tradition of service is still our number one priority. G. J. Nikolas Sr., current Chairman of the Board, states, "We've built this business by solving problems for our customers. When somebody calls us with a problem, we like to take care of it quickly. By treating customers right, the word gets around; in fact, referrals account for 60 percent of our new customers."
The century-old tradition of "Innovative Solutions in Industrial Coatings" drives G.J. Nikolas & Co., Inc. and works on your behalf now and into the future.
