Joyson Safety Systems Implements JAGGAER ONE

Significantly less manual effort, more time for strategic decision-making in purchasing.

Joyson Safety Systems (JSS), a global leader in mobility safety, is deploying JAGGAER procurement software with the aim of standardizing the entire purchasing process within the Group. Joyson Safety Systems was created in 2018 through the merger of two global automotive suppliers. In fact, however, one of these two companies had four separate branches in Japan, Europe, China and America, each with their own processes and organizational structures. As a result, JSS actually acquired 13 separate ERP systems in the merged companies. The aim was to eliminate this heterogeneity and standardize purchasing processes within the entire JSS group. The various ERP systems will gradually be replaced by SAP S/4 HANA by the end of 2023.

JAGGAER is also an important part of the plan to transition purchasing at JSS from an operational orientation to a strategic one. The native standard interface from JAGGAER ONE to SAP S/4 HANA, which provides synergies on both sides, is playing a decisive role. Cooperation between JSS, SAP and JAGGAER is a further critical success factor for the group. Previously, the company worked with Excel, PowerPoint and various non-standard templates, which is why employees spent about 80% of their time doing manual work and searching for information about suppliers, and only 20% on making decisions about procurement and purchasing. The aim of the restructuring is to reverse this ratio within five years.

JSS selected JAGGAER in 2019. The solution was then introduced in phases, starting with a fast “agile” implementation method. As a result, the company, headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA, benefits from the standardization of its global purchasing IT system, less effort thanks to the interfaces with SAP S/4 HANA and an intuitive dashboard, making work more pleasant. “The main reason was the speed of implementation that is possible with JAGGAER,” explains Velat Özkilinc, Executive Vice President, Chief Purchasing Officer at Joyson Safety Systems. “With so many other technological issues to deal with, this was critical. Moreover, JAGGAER offers more comprehensive modules than any other provider on the market and everything is available via a self-explanatory dashboard,” he continues.

The Supplier Management module went live with supplier onboarding in September 2020. Most of the strategic suppliers were connected within just a few months. An important point for the global purchasing team: They want to convince around 400 purchasers of the advantages of using JAGGAER when creating requests, as opposed to simply stipulating its use. Work on the JAGGAER Sourcing Module followed and after extensive tests, the automatic creation of tenders went live in July 2021.

For Velat Özkilinc, a team that enjoys its work provides the basis for building closer supplier relationships and offering customers greater added value. If the purchasing department has an efficient IT facility, Joyson Safety Systems can take better care of its employees and talent development. This means that more time can be spent on strategic activities, which benefits employees, the company and its stakeholders. The JAGGAER roadmap for the implementation of further modules will play an important role in this. After extensive tests with SAP, the e-Procurement module for generating orders will be operational by the end of the year, while the Quality Management module will go live in 2022. “The aim is to standardize all procurement processes and functions with JAGGAER,” says Velat Özkilinc. “In the not-too-distant future, team members will come in, turn on their laptops and find everything they need on the JAGGAER dashboard. A solution for all their needs.”
