LTV Steel Wins Worthington Industries' Best Steel Supplier Award

Toyota had honored LTV Steel with its top quality award.

Worthington Industries has named LTV Steel (Cleveland, OH) as the first recipient of its Best Domestic, Major Flat-Rolled Steel Award. LTV Steel is a supplier of steel to Columbus, OH-based Worthington Industries, a manufacturer of metal products. Products include automotive aftermarket stampings, pressure cylinders, and metal framing. Worthington is also a major supplier of value-added steel, strip and sheet to the automotive, appliance, and yard maintenance products industries.

John P. McConnell, Worthington chairman and CEO, presented six plaques at LTV's Cleveland Works: one plaque to Cleveland Works plant management and the remaining five plaques to representatives of the United Steelworkers of America local unions.

McConnell acknowledged the USWA's role in achieving the "best steel supplier" award. McConnell said, "The workers are the people who make it happen. This is our way of saying thanks for all of the efforts of the LTV Steel group."

Worthington also presented awards to LTV's Indiana Harbor Works and Hennepin Works for their excellent performance.

In March, LTV Steel had received the Quality Achievement Award from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Inc. The award recognizes the consistently high quality steel products made by LTV for Toyota during 1999. LTV produces a full line of value-added flat rolled steel for Toyota's plant in Georgetown, KY, its parts suppliers, and the New United Motors Manufacturing Inc (NUMMI)—an automotive joint venture between Toyota and General Motors in California.

"Toyota is a long-standing, valued customer of LTV Steel," said David E. Althoff, VP-sales and marketing-automotive. "We appreciate this award very much; not only does it recognize our performance in 1999, it also signifies our commitment to meet Toyota's high standard of quality in the future."
