Natural Gas Backup Service

Source: Alliant Energy Industrial Services
If your facility is required to curtail natural gas usage or pay higher prices all year long to ensure firm delivery of your gas in the winter months
If your facility is required to curtail natural gas usage or pay higher prices all year long to ensure firm delivery of your gas in the winter months, our natural gas backup service may be an option for you. With this service, you could operate in the coldest weather, even during pipeline service interruptions. Your customers could count on you for consistent, reliable operations. You would save money because you could buy your natural gas at lower-cost interruptible rates. The service also would pay for itself, with no capital expenditure on your part, if Alliant Energy Industrial Services owns and maintains the system.

A reliable energy source
Energys, a unit of Alliant Energy Industrial Services, can design, build, own and maintain a propane air system on your site, providing a backup source of gas. The mixture of propane and air replicates the physical properties of natural gas, and generally requires no modifications to your equipment. Our service includes designing, building, owning, and maintaining the equipment. We comply with all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations and we obtain all the necessary permits. This includes meeting the interconnect requirements of your energy provider and all environmental regulations.

Make the system work for you
Your gas provider must meet peak demands on the coldest days of the year. That means it charges customers a premium if they require firm service. Or, worse yet, you may face the volatility of the spot gas market, where gas prices can spike to many times the normal price. Another option is to take advantage of a lower rate for gas year-round if you accept interruptible service on peak demand (generally very cold) days. Unfortunately, that often means that you simply shut down when gas service is curtailed. Propane air offers the advantage of lower-cost, interruptible natural gas all year long, while giving you the security of a firm fuel supply.
Our backup service uses propane air, a gaseous fuel that burns almost exactly like natural gas. In fact, many pipelines and utilities have similar systems to provide peaking capacities to meet system demands. We will build a propane air system on your property, maintain the equipment, and manage the fuel. You will be able to take advantage of the lower interruptible rate and you can maintain operations when your provider's gas service is interrupted. Since we own the equipment, you also avoid the capital investment needed to take advantage of this option.
