Young Pecan was founded by T.B. Young, Sr. in the early 1920's in Florence, South Carolina as a shipper of inshell pecans. In 1945, his son, J. Givens Young took over pecan operations when the installation of commercial crackers marked the company's entry into the pecan shelling industry. The company grew steadily, forming a joint venture with Gold Kist, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia in 1992. This merged the pecan operations of both companies to form what has become the largest sheller in the pecan industry. The state-of-the-art shelling facilities in Las Cruces, New Mexico; Florence, South Carolina; and Zaragosa, Mexico, as well as the buying and storage facility in Albany, Georgia, are strategically located to provide grassroots access to raw material from all of the major growing regions in the United States ! and Mexico.
